Arts for the year 2020, commences from the month of July.
The course is a full-time residential one and aims at training students to professional theatre practitioners such as actors, stagecraft designers, directors, playwriters, drama teachers, etc. NSD has a spectacular list of famous alumni working in the field of theatre, television, and film in different capacities. These alumni include B.V. Karanth, Sai Paranjpye, Om Puri, Nasiruddin Shah, Prasanna, Raj Babbar, Raghuvir Yadav, Govind Namdev, Ratan Thiyam, Seema Biswas, Meeta Vashist, Irfan Khan, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Abel Marks Roysten, Sanjay Mishra, Nawajuddin Siddiqui, and Pankaj Tripathi among others.
NSD takes 26 students each admission year. Besides following the reservation norms as prescribed by the Government of India, NSD ensures that the student strength represents diversity in terms of geography and language among others.
SCHOLARSHIP OR STIPEND:
All the selected students will be given a monthly scholarship of Rs 8,000/- per month to meet their academic and related expenses.
WHO CAN APPLY:
Candidates who have completed graduation in any subject from a recognised University in India or abroad and having been participated in at least six different theatre productions with attached document proof of the theatre experience, working knowledge of Hindi/English and a recommendation letter from at least one theatre expert. The candidate should also fulfill the minimum age limit of 18 years and a maximum age limit of 30 years as on July 1, 2020.
All students selected for admission will have to undergo a medical test for physical fitness at NSD’s New Delhi campus. Their final selection is dependent upon the clearances of the fitness test.
The selection of students is made in two stages. The first stage begins with a preliminary test comprising of a written test and an interview round conducted in 12 centers across the country which are Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Chennai, Chandigarh, Lucknow, Patna, Jaipur, Bhopal, Guwahati, Bhubaneswar. The objective of the test is to evaluate the applicants on the basis of their interest and understanding about drama, performing arts, Indian culture, and literature. NSD shall intimate the students regarding the results of the preliminary test through email. The drama school shall also declare the result on its official website during March / April 2020.
Candidates who qualify in this test will be required to attend a workshop of five days in the premises of the NSD in New Delhi which will be held around the months of June-July 2020. These candidates will be assessed during the workshop on the basis of their involvement, skills, and final interview by a committee of experts. The final selection will be made on the basis of this assessment. Candidates can get the study material and guidelines for the preliminary test/audition on the official website during March/April 2020.

Online: Application form can be filled and submitted online along with necessary documents on the link available on the NSD website http://www.onlineadmission.nsd.gov.in or www.nsd.gov.in from 28/01/2020. Application fee of Rs 50/- can be paid online through Net Banking, Credit Card or Debit Card. The last date of submission of online application is 28/02/2020.
By post: To receive the application form and prospectus (in English & Hindi) by post, please write to The Dean (Academics), National School of Drama, Bahawalpur House, Bhagwandas Road, New Delhi – 110001 along with a crossed Demand Draft/Pay Order, payable at Delhi, of Rs. 225/-including postal charges in favour of The Director, National School of Drama, New Delhi. Requests for receiving the application form by post must reach the School by 10 February 2020. Those who Offline application forms duly filled in and complete in all respects must reach Dean Academic, National School of Drama, Bahawalpur House, Bhagwandas Road, New Delhi – 110001 on or before 28 February 2020. No application form will be entertained after the last date in any circumstances.
Foreign nationals: All the foreign nationals have to apply through the Indian Council for Cultural Relation (ICCR) as per the norms.
