Former Prime Minister’s media advisor Dr. Sanjaya Baru to join FICCI as Secretary General
Dr. Sanjay Baru, who worked as media advisor to ex-Prime Minister, will join as secretary general of FICCI. “With Dr A Didar Singh nearing completion of five years as Secretary General of FICCI after joining FICCI post his retirement as Secretary to Government, he has been for some time been looking for a relatively lighter role within the organization and in view of this, the FICCI Committee has decided to appoint the renowned economist and journalist Dr. Sanjaya Baru at the helm of FICCI as its Secretary General,” informed Mr. Pankaj Patel, President of FICCI.
He has also authored the book, ‘The Accidental Prime Minister,’ a narrative on Dr. Baru’s sting as media advisor at the Prime Minister’ Office during the tenure of Dr. Manmohan Sing as India’s Prime Minister. The book was published by the Penguine India publication and it was controversial due to the revelation of Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi’s control over Dr. Singh during that time period.
Dr. Baru has also served as the Director for Geo-Economics and Strategy International Institute of Strategic Studies. He had earlier worked with The Economic Times and The Times of India as associate editor. Later on, he became the chief editor of Business Standard newspaper.
Describing Dr. Didar Singh’s contribution during his tenure, Mr. Patel added: “FICCI has completed 90 years of its glorious existence growing from strength to strength. With
Dr. Singh’s personal efforts, FICCI has shaped up extremely well during the last five years and has been extremely resilient in dealing with domestic and global challenges as well as supporting Indian industry in capitalizing on new emerging opportunities.”
“FICCI recognizes the tremendous contribution of Dr. Singh and would continue to benefit from his vast experience as he would be now be holding the position of the Principal Advisor to FICCI President from September 1,” Mr. Patel further shared.
