It’s been more than two weeks since Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency note. The Prime Minister, in his own style of addressing the public, announced the demonetisation process just one day before implementing it. Though the announcement came as a surprise to the majority of Indians, most of them welcomed the step anticipating a long-term national benefit associated with it. Modi’s supporters could also quite successfully convince the benefits of this announcement to the public through social networks and other platforms.

However, the public couldn’t bear the bitterness of their banking experience for a long. It is being observed that people from lower and middle economic group are suffering more than anyone. People are compromising on their day-to-day purchases; daily wage earners and petty traders are also suffering. The under-preparedness of the Government is also clearly noticeable.

In the meanwhile, many political rivals of the BJP and Modi, including Mamata Banerjee, Arvind Kejriwal and some bigwigs from the Congress party, tried to take potshots on
Modi. None of them have been successful in putting their points effectively. Most of their criticisms proved to be counterproductive and letting them become the butt of public jokes. This inefficiency of the opposition parties further added to the bitter experience of the public. However, Member of Parliament, Anand Sharma, in his recent speech in the Parliament has raised pertinent questions. In his speech, Anand Sharma has not only highlighted the poor implementation of the demonetisation process, but also has put intriguing questions on the need of introducing such a policy in a hurry. Watch this video to know how eloquently Anand  Sharma has put his thoughts to pinpoint the repercussions of demonetisation:
